DCPs (Damp Proof Courses)

Horizontal waterproof barriers built into brick or masonry courses between a potential source of water and location where water penetration would be detrimental. DPCs are commonly located above ground but below the floor structure in the based walls of a building. Moderns DPCs are of either plastic material or an aluminum cored sandwich. If the DPC fails then water can rise from the ground into the wall above the floor, this is the phenomenon called rising damp.
